Role overview

Trillium Health Partners is recruiting two permanent full-time Physician Assistants for the Neuro/MSK program at Mississauga Hospital. This role supports the neurosurgical inpatient service and reports through the Neuro/MSK leadership structure, working under the supervision of a neurosurgeon.

The position is aligned to the OPAA level, with a pay range of $46.00 to $59.73. Scheduled hours are 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with a possible weekend rotation in the future.

The Neuro/MSK program includes three distinct units that provide specialized, patient-centred care for people with brain tumours, subdural hematoma, subarachnoid hemorrhage, arterial venous malformations, and spinal surgery needs. The neurosurgery units include a 14-bed regional centre, an 8-bed special care unit for higher-observation post-operative patients, and a 16-bed surgical spine unit for acute pre- and post-operative care.

As part of an academic centre, the team is involved in research, quality improvement, and professional development, offering strong learning opportunities.

Key duties

• Carry out full and problem-focused patient histories, physical assessments, screening, and related lab and diagnostic workups.
• Make daily inpatient rounds, review patients after surgery, help coordinate discharge planning, and arrange referrals to the appropriate physician or outside service.
• Provide routine follow-up care, respond to patient phone calls, and handle prescription refill requests.
• Complete minor unit procedures after skills review and satisfactory competency assessment, following a direct order or medical directive from the supervising surgeon.
• Once required training and documented competency are completed, prescribe or order specific non-narcotic medications as delegated by the supervising physician.
• Work closely with an inter-professional team that may include surgeons, interventional radiology, residents, interns, medical students, nurse practitioners, nurses, allied health staff, and laboratory personnel.

Candidate profile

The employer is looking for a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program who is certified by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada. New graduates are welcome to apply.

Applicants should be able to support inpatient neurosurgical care at Mississauga Hospital and work within a collaborative clinical environment under neurosurgical supervision.
