Role overview

This full-time, permanent PAT Tester position is based in the Northeast and is carried out in the field. The annual pay is up to £32,510.38, with an additional commercial vehicle and fuel card provided. The working pattern is 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

What the role involves

You will typically visit around 10 tenanted homes each day across the Northeast, moving between locations as part of your daily route. Your main duty will be to inspect and test Mears-provided white goods such as fridges, kettles, microwaves, irons, vacuum cleaners, and washing machines.

Alongside the testing work, you will need to complete records accurately, including appliance information and electrical readings. You will also be expected to take clear before-and-after images of each appliance on a PDA, showing both the item itself and the PAT test label. In some cases, you may need to ask for photographs of the white goods to help confirm identification.

If any item fails testing, it must be reported without delay to the Facilities Supervisor. Fridges and washing machines are not to be removed, as the Facilities Supervisor will arrange replacements. This position is generally lone-working, unless a two-person visit is needed.

Applicants should hold a PAT Testing qualification such as City and Guilds 2377, or an equivalent certification. A full UK driving licence is essential, along with the ability to travel widely across the Northeast. All candidates must have the right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not offered for this role. To use a Mears vehicle, you must be over 21 years old, have held your driving licence for more than 3 months, and have fewer than 9 points on your licence.
