Role Overview

As an NDT Inspector with SGS New Zealand, you will help protect the safety, reliability, and quality of industrial work across a broad range of sectors. The role is based in Taupō, Northland, New Zealand, and offers a lifestyle surrounded by natural scenery and outdoor recreation.

This is a full-time, on-site position working with a varied customer base across industries such as dairy, power generation, oil and gas, chemical processing, pulp and paper, construction, and light engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out multiple non-destructive testing methods, including visual testing (VT), ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), and liquid penetrant testing (PT).
  • Review test outcomes and produce precise, easy-to-understand reports for clients.
  • Keep documentation and records accurate and aligned with industry and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their inspection needs and provide practical, tailored support.
  • Build technical capability by staying current with new NDT tools, technologies, and practices.
  • Support a strong safety-first culture and ensure compliance with all health and safety obligations.

Requirements

  • Current AINDT or PCN Level 2 certification is required, specifically for UT2 Welds, MT2, and PT2.
  • ISO 9712 Phased Array certification and Certified Welding Inspection (CWI) credentials will be considered an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in NDT is needed.
  • Strong customer service and client-facing approach is important.
  • A valid driving licence is required, along with the flexibility to travel to client sites throughout New Zealand.
  • Comfort using computers and technology is necessary.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment is expected.
