Role overview
Tesla is scaling clean energy technologies at speed, and the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg is a key part of that expansion in Europe. The company is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer for the Cell Manufacturing Engineering team, focused on the Tabless “Welder” area. The position calls for someone who is highly driven, enjoys complex automation challenges, and is comfortable spending substantial time on the shop floor.
This role centers on bringing highly automated, high-volume manufacturing equipment into operation, troubleshooting issues, improving processes, and supporting the early lifecycle of production systems from initial power-on through validation and ramp-up. The scope includes laser welding, high-speed pick-and-place systems, computer vision, insertions, press-fits, and related automation technologies. The engineer will also run trials and design experiments, define specifications, write procedures, coordinate with suppliers, support budget approvals, and contribute to equipment redesign efforts. Close collaboration is expected with Production Engineering, Maintenance, Quality Engineering, NPI, and Project Management teams.
Key responsibilities
- Bring automated manufacturing lines and equipment into service, validate them statistically, and support ramp-up to production.
- Diagnose equipment issues, set up and fine-tune processes, and perform root-cause analysis to correct deviations.
- Design and run experiments to improve current processes or confirm and develop new ones.
- Review production and trial data, create visual summaries, and communicate findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Prepare equipment specifications, manufacturing instructions, and related technical documentation.
- Work with Production Engineering, Quality Engineering, and NPI partners to improve yield, quality, and equipment availability.
- Coordinate installations, modifications, and upgrades with vendors and internal suppliers.
Requirements
- A degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Background in high-volume manufacturing and hands-on troubleshooting of electromechanical systems.
- Strong capability in data analysis, including summary statistics and regression work, plus experience with data visualization tools or software.
- Understanding of DC electrical circuit fundamentals and the ability to interpret schematics.
- Knowledge of quality methods and statistics such as SPC and capability studies.
- Ability to carry out mechanical tolerance stack-up and GD&T analysis, with CAD software experience.
Additional expectations
Candidates are expected to actively support sustainability principles in day-to-day work and operate in accordance with Tesla Global Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS&S) Policy and EMAS requirements. The role also calls for helping foster a culture of ongoing environmental improvement.
Work environment
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Grünheide, Brandenburg, Germany.
