Role overview
PCI Pharma Services is seeking a permanent Maintenance Technician to join its Dundalk, County Louth site. The role sits within a global biopharma services environment focused on supporting life-changing therapies and improving outcomes for patients worldwide.
This position is scheduled for night shift work from Thursday to Saturday, with 12-hour shifts running from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am.
What you will do
You will keep production equipment running efficiently by handling changeovers, stoppages, and breakdowns with minimal disruption to manufacturing targets. The role also involves carrying out planned maintenance, supporting equipment reliability, and ensuring compliance with GMP standards.
The position requires strong capability in electrical and mechanical fault diagnosis, PLC programming, process improvement work, and hands-on participation in technical projects. You will also contribute to equipment redesign, method improvement, and the implementation of robust change control and validation practices.
Key duties
- Respond quickly to machine stoppages, breakdowns, and changeovers so production is impacted as little as possible.
- Carry out routine preventative maintenance and keep maintenance plans up to date for plant and equipment.
- Diagnose faults to an advanced level across electrical and mechanical systems.
- Program PLCs and support technically complex initiatives aimed at improving or introducing new processes.
- Help design mechanical systems and support their development through to implementation.
- Drive continuous improvement work on equipment while maintaining GMP compliance.
- Create and manage change control documentation through the QMS.
- Use design-of-experiments and similar troubleshooting methods to improve process performance.
- Follow safe working practices at all times and report near misses to the EHS team without delay.
- Keep work areas, equipment, and storage spaces clean, orderly, and secure.
- Record and complete all scheduled maintenance accurately for all equipment and plant.
- Work with the Engineering Supervisor and Operational Engineering Manager on urgent repairs and production-impacting issues.
- Participate in A3 problem-solving and support root-cause analysis on major issues.
- Review equipment and system redesign opportunities to improve performance and process flow.
- Plan and deliver engineering improvement projects through to validation.
- Inform management of machinery or plant requiring major repair or substantial maintenance.
- Identify improvement opportunities in production areas, including equipment and procedural changes.
- Work with Production to implement improvement ideas using the correct change process.
- Strip down, clean, and reassemble production equipment as part of maintenance routines.
- Carry out machine setup and changeovers within target times to match production needs.
- Help reduce changeover times through better procedures and working methods.
- Complete all required documents accurately, including tooling logs, setting sheets, online working sheets, and PPM records.
- Support improvements in current good manufacturing practice standards.
- Assist in training colleagues when needed.
- Use workshop tools and equipment to make parts and complete repairs.
- Support trials, project work, and new product introductions as required.
- Take on additional tasks from time to time in line with company goals.
Essential requirements
- Advanced Certificate at craft level 6 NFQ in a mechanical or electrical discipline, or a Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or diploma in Engineering/Certificate in Engineering. Relevant experience may be accepted in place of formal education.
- At least 4 years of experience.
- A proven record of delivering results through leadership or management.
- Ability to work toward clear goals, communicate them effectively, and meet agreed targets on time.
- Strong capability to manage multiple tasks at once.
- Well-developed troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to resolving issues.
- Self-driven and focused on results.
- Willingness to work different shifts when requested based on business requirements.
- Flexible and able to collaborate well with others.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Commitment to personal safety and the safety of others.
- Ability to cooperate on health and safety matters and avoid misuse of safety or welfare provisions.
Preferred background
- Experience working in a GMP or other regulated environment.
- Previous exposure to lean manufacturing and lean tools for continuous improvement.
