The role is also expected to add business value by improving controls, supporting cost optimisation, identifying and preventing revenue leakage or losses, and helping strengthen governance and assurance across the organisation.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out risk-based audits across processes, locations, and business units to assess both the design and operating effectiveness of controls.
- Identify control weaknesses, process inefficiencies, and opportunities to standardise or automate processes.
- Prepare detailed risk control matrices, process flows, process narratives, testing documentation, and action-tracking updates.
- Perform root-cause analysis, document findings clearly, and recommend practical corrective actions.
- Track audit timelines, coordinate fieldwork activities, and ensure audits are completed within agreed timelines.
- Support resolution of complex cases, including fraud indicators, governance issues, revenue leakages, cost escalations, and control failures.
- Follow up on agreed audit actions and report the implementation status to business management and the Audit Committee.
- Work with stakeholders to escalate delays, disagreements, or recurring issues through a structured reporting process.
- Review internal control and risk management frameworks to ensure resources are used efficiently and risks are adequately addressed.
- Conduct risk assessments covering business, credit, operational, market, fraud, and reputational risks.
- Handle special assignments and fraud investigations as assigned by the Business Audit Team Lead or Business Internal Audit Head.
- Review statutory and regulatory compliance, and highlight instances of non-compliance.
- Benchmark control, risk, and compliance practices against leading organisations and support adoption of better standards.
- Prepare audit reports, executive summaries, senior management updates, and Audit Committee presentations.
- Maintain issue trackers and contribute to reporting that reflects financial impact such as cost savings, avoided losses, fraud detection, and control improvements.
- Build effective working relationships with process owners, function heads, CXOs, and other stakeholders to enable smooth audit execution.
- Strengthen the assurance culture by working closely with business controls and risk/compliance teams.
- Stay updated on business developments, emerging risks, and stakeholder expectations through regular engagement with leadership and business units.
- Use data analytics, automation, AI-enabled tools, and audit/GRC platforms to improve audit coverage and efficiency.
- Provide assurance on digital, IT, and cyber risk management areas.
- Maintain strong workpaper quality, robust report writing, and stakeholder-ready communication.
What the role requires
- Ability to independently execute internal audits with strong depth, quality, and coverage.
- Experience in reviewing financial, operational, compliance, technology, digital, IT, and cyber risks.
- Capability to work across diverse functions, business processes, and geographies with complex operations.
- Strong skills in drafting audit observations, root-cause analysis, recommendations, and executive-level reports.
- Hands-on ability to maintain trackers, documentation, and audit workpapers in line with internal audit standards and applicable local laws.
- Comfort in interacting with senior stakeholders and influencing timely closure of audit issues.
- Exposure to data analytics, automation, continuous control monitoring, and audit technology tools is preferred.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and business acumen.
- Willingness to learn and adopt new approaches, including design thinking and benchmarking practices.
