Head Coach

Role overview

As Head Coach, you will be responsible for the fitness offering within your gym, setting the standard through your own actions while inspiring members and supporting the wider team. Reporting to the General Manager, this position combines hands-on leadership with coaching, programme delivery, and member experience ownership. You will act as the visible fitness lead on the gym floor, helping shape a high-energy environment and ensuring the gym delivers an outstanding experience.

Key duties

Your work will centre on leading core fitness products, supporting team development, and strengthening member engagement and commercial performance.

• Act as the fitness lead and represent the gym’s standards and approach in day-to-day operations.
• Oversee delivery of fitness products including MOVE, REDEFINE, Personal Training, and Group Training to a consistently high standard.
• Promote national campaigns such as #WorkoutWednesday, along with in-gym challenges and events, to increase participation.
• Support member onboarding, with a particular focus on MOVE, and train colleagues so they can confidently deliver it too.
• Take ownership of REDEFINE by improving sales, participation in cohorts, and member outcomes.
• Recruit, train, coach, and support Fitness Coaches and Personal Trainers, giving clear and constructive feedback.
• Manage group training schedules and track performance against company targets and KPIs.
• Contribute to new member acquisition and retention while helping grow revenue through personal training, memberships, and secondary spend.
• Deliver classes and personal training sessions during your shift in line with company standards.
• Lead by example across reception, the gym floor, and all member touchpoints so every visit feels premium.

The ideal candidate is a committed fitness professional with strong coaching ability, leadership confidence, and a genuine passion for health and wellbeing. You should be comfortable working across personal training and group formats, staying current with trends, and adapting your communication style to different people and situations. A proactive, solution-focused mindset and a desire to keep developing yourself and others are essential.

Qualifications and availability

You must hold a Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification and be a CIMSPA Practitioner. Experience in personal training and a range of group training styles is required. You should also be willing to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays, to meet business requirements.
