General Labourer

About the Role

GFL Environmental Inc. is hiring a General Labourer for its site in Squamish, British Columbia. This is a full-time, on-site position focused on keeping the worksite clean, supporting basic maintenance, assisting with equipment and vehicle operations, and helping maintain safe day-to-day site operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep work areas clean and organized.
• Refuel vehicles and equipment as needed.
• Remove debris and clean tracks on track-type and related equipment.
• Carry out yard maintenance tasks such as mowing and collecting litter.
• Operate common site vehicles and equipment, including water trucks, pickup trucks, sweepers, mowers, and trimming tools.
• Follow company and applicable federal, provincial, state, and local safety rules and procedures.
• Handle general office upkeep and minor repairs, including painting and janitorial duties.
• Direct traffic on-site when required.
• Take on any other duties assigned or requested by management.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED is preferred, though it is not mandatory.
• Must meet the company’s standards for safety-sensitive work.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read, write, do basic math, and communicate clearly with others.
• Comfort working with limited supervision and following instructions accurately.
• Capability to operate equipment needed to complete the job.
• Practical problem-solving ability and sound common-sense judgment.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift while working outdoors for most of the day.
• Must be able to use hands and fingers, kneel, crawl, speak, hear, climb, and maintain balance.
• Vision requirements include close, distant, color, peripheral, and depth perception, along with the ability to adjust focus.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 65 pounds regularly by hand.
• Must be able to push or move up to 100 pounds with help from another employee.

Working Conditions

• Frequent exposure to loud noise, humidity, rain, storms, extreme heat, and extreme cold depending on the season.
• Work may involve moving machinery, vibration, toxic and caustic substances, fumes, and airborne particles.
• Outdoor work may extend for the full shift.
• The role involves working away from the branch location throughout the day.
• There may be occasional work at elevated or precarious locations.
• Exposure to road traffic is constant.
• The environment is typically noisy.
