Role overview
Meta is hiring a Data Scientist focused on product analytics to help shape consumer- and business-facing experiences across its app family, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Oculus. In this role, you will pair analytical rigor, technical depth, and product judgment to work with one of the world’s largest and most valuable datasets. Your insights will help define experiences for billions of people and hundreds of millions of businesses.
You will work closely with partners across Product, Engineering, Research, Data Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and other functions to tackle a broad mix of product and business questions. The work centers on using data to uncover issues, identify opportunities, influence product direction, and support investment decisions. You will also join a strong analytics community that emphasizes learning, growth, and career development.
What you will do
You will use data to guide product decisions, help teams prioritize initiatives, define success measures, and understand how products and ecosystems evolve over time. The role also requires developing hypotheses, selecting the right analytical methods, and turning findings into clear recommendations that move teams forward.
Responsibilities
- Analyze large, complex datasets to solve challenging problems with a range of statistical and analytical techniques.
- Use experimentation, quantitative analysis, data mining, and clear data presentation to inform strategy for products used by billions of people and hundreds of millions of businesses.
- Define success metrics, monitor key product indicators, forecast trends, and track how product efforts are performing.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve products, then translate those insights into roadmaps and execution priorities.
- Work with Product, Engineering, and other cross-functional partners to shape and support product strategy and investment choices.
- Communicate findings as data-driven narratives, not just reports, so partners can understand implications and act on recommendations.
Minimum qualifications
- You are currently pursuing, or have already completed, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, another relevant technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience; the degree must be finished before joining Meta.
- You also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field, or have equivalent background.
- You have at least 2 years of experience using analytics tools and data querying languages such as SQL, scripting languages such as Python, and/or statistical software such as R.
- You have at least 2 years of experience solving analytical problems using quantitative methods, understanding ecosystems, user behavior, and long-term product trends, and leading data-driven projects from problem definition through execution, including metric design, experimentation, and communication of actionable insights.
Preferred qualifications
- A Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a quantitative field is preferred.
- Experience using AI tools to improve or redesign workflows in ways that create measurable gains in efficiency or quality is a plus.
- Familiarity with responsible and ethical AI practices, including risk assessment, bias reduction, and quality/accuracy review, is preferred.
- Ongoing development in AI skills, such as prompt or context engineering and agent orchestration, along with awareness of emerging AI technologies, is valued.
