About the Opportunity

Sun Life is looking for a Data Analyst to join its Strategy & Analytics group and turn raw information into practical business insights. In this position, you will work across teams to understand business questions, shape analytical approaches, and create reporting and visualization solutions that support better decisions. The role calls for a mix of business understanding and technical analysis, along with strong attention to data quality and the ability to explain findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has 3 to 5 years of experience in business intelligence or business analysis, a degree in Business, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering, and hands-on experience with BI and visualization tools. A strong grasp of SQL, data modeling, and business requirement gathering is important, as is the ability to communicate recommendations effectively to senior leaders.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with business partners to gather, prioritize, and document reporting and analytical needs.
• Create and maintain interactive dashboards, reports, and visual outputs for executive and operational users.
• Convert business questions into structured analytical methods and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
• Track KPIs and business measures, highlighting trends, anomalies, and performance shifts.
• Partner with data engineering teams to make sure reporting and analytics requirements are supported properly.

Required Experience and Skills

• 3 to 5 years of experience in data analytics and report development.
• Completed a B.Sc. or B.A. in Business, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related program.
• Hands-on use of BI and visualization platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar tools.
• Strong capability in gathering business requirements and turning them into technical specifications.
• Solid SQL and data querying skills, including understanding of database design and relationships.
• Working knowledge of data modeling concepts, semantic models, and business rules.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for audiences ranging from technical teams to senior executives.

Preferred Background

• Exposure to the investment operations lifecycle, including trade processing, settlement, reconciliation, portfolio accounting, and compliance.
• Experience in financial services, especially mutual funds, segregated funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and SMAs.
• Familiarity with Python, R, Tableau, SQL, and AWS.
• Experience with CRM platforms, especially Salesforce.

Additional Requirements

• Some travel may be needed for the role.
• Additional working hours may be required during quarter-end reporting and periods of heavy mutual fund trading activity.

The posted base pay range for the primary location is 60,000 to 97,000, and actual compensation may vary by work location or other factors. Eligible employees may also participate in discretionary incentive plans based on individual and company performance, with sales-focused roles subject to applicable sales incentive structures.
