Role overview
Mackay Regional Council is looking for an experienced civil construction backhoe operator to join the Paget Depot team in Mackay, Queensland. In this hands-on role, you will operate backhoes and other road construction plant, work safely at all times, complete basic equipment upkeep, and coordinate effectively with your teammates to help deliver successful project outcomes.
Key responsibilities
Your day-to-day work will centre on operating backhoes and related civil construction machinery, following safety procedures, carrying out routine maintenance, and supporting the wider crew to keep work progressing efficiently.
Required qualifications
- Valid Queensland General Construction Safety White Card.
- Current Queensland manual Class C open driver’s licence.
- Current Queensland Heavy Rigid (HR) licence, or a willingness to obtain it within 12 months.
- Current traffic control tickets (TCT/TMI), or the ability to obtain them.
- Current certificate of competency for road construction plant operation, specifically backhoe operation.
Salary and benefits
The advertised base salary is $67,054.26 per year, which is equivalent to $1,289.51 per week, plus any allowances that may apply. The package also includes a choice of 4 or 5 weeks of annual leave with 17.5% leave loading, a 9-day fortnight roster, possible salary sacrificing options, access to a lifestyle benefits program with corporate discounts, career development and learning opportunities, an employee assistance program, and active social clubs.
