Role overview
The Associate Data Scientist supports analytics and data science work that improves profitability, streamlines operations, and enhances the customer experience. In this position, you will partner with Data Scientists and Senior Data Scientists to build solutions using advanced analytical techniques and algorithms that reveal trends and solve business challenges. Depending on the team, you may also build expertise in one or more specialties such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation systems, search, or natural language processing.
This role is designed for someone who wants to deepen both technical and business expertise while using data science methods to address practical business problems and deliver strategic insight. Strong communication and a commitment to ongoing learning are essential.
Key responsibilities
- Develop algorithms and models for large datasets to generate actionable business insights.
- Support data science initiatives by performing analysis that addresses business problems.
- Complete assigned work efficiently and with strong attention to quality.
- Work with Data Scientists or Senior Data Scientists to choose, apply, and interpret advanced analytical methods.
- Build a stronger understanding of the business area to improve solution design.
- Explain findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Help prepare project updates, reports, and presentations that reflect progress and outcomes.
- Communicate the business impact of recommendations to support alignment and implementation.
- Stay current on emerging practices, industry trends, and evolving analytical approaches.
- Continue building capability in analytics concepts and methodologies and apply new learning where relevant.
Reporting and work expectations
- Reports to a manager or higher-level leader.

- Work is primarily sedentary, with regular opportunities to move around.
- Occasional light lifting or moving of small items may be needed.

Minimum qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics, or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in business intelligence and analytics.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience using a modern scripting language, ideally Python.
- Experience querying data, preferably with Google BigQuery or SQL.
- Background in predictive modeling, data mining, and data analysis.
- Experience with data visualization tools, preferably Tableau.
- Ability to use statistical techniques to surface insights that support business problem-solving.
- Exposure to prescriptive modeling areas such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search, or NLP.

Education
The role typically requires a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in a field related to the job. No additional education is preferred.
