Role Overview

Portwest, a global maker of safety wear, workwear, and PPE, is inviting applications for an Area Sales Manager to manage business across Togo and Benin. The company operates with more than 5,100 employees worldwide, serves customers in over 160 countries, and runs eight global warehouses located in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Spain, the UAE, the USA, and Australia. Portwest designs, manufactures, and distributes leading workwear, safety wear, and PPE through fully owned production facilities.

What the Role Involves

This field sales position is focused on promoting Portwest products to distributors in the assigned territory. The role calls for someone with PPE and/or workwear sales experience who can open new channels while strengthening existing ones. You will work independently and also partner with the Regional Sales Manager to support continued growth in the region.

Key Duties

  • Develop strong commercial relationships with both new and existing clients.
  • Hold daily in-person sales discussions with distributors and end users across the territory to nurture and expand business ties.
  • Spot fresh business prospects and build practical sales plans.
  • Apply solution-oriented selling methods to secure new business consistently.
  • Identify current customers with strong growth potential and map out their expansion path.
  • Use consultative selling to understand customer needs and match them with Portwest solutions.
  • Prepare clear written proposals and quotations for both existing and potential customers.
  • Promote new Portwest products by carrying samples to meetings.
  • Carry out timely follow-up after meetings to move deals toward closure.
  • Continuously build market awareness by engaging with trade shows, seminars, exhibitions, and similar events.
  • Push meaningful growth within target industries and designated sales channels.

Experience and Qualifications

Preferred experience includes 1 to 3 years in PPE, workwear, or safety wear sales. The company is looking for candidates who have sold on behalf of a manufacturer, distributor, reseller, or agency and who can create and implement sales plans aimed at rapid expansion. Strong field-sales motivation, the ability to turn business initiatives into measurable results, excellent communication and negotiation abilities, a positive mindset, and strong teamwork are important.
