About the opportunity
This position sits within Advanced Analytics and offers the chance to contribute to Bank of Ireland’s digital transformation as part of a fast-moving, ambitious team. The role provides broad exposure to building end-to-end data science solutions, using statistical methods and both supervised and unsupervised machine learning on structured and unstructured data to solve important business challenges and unlock value from a wide variety of complex data sources.
It is a highly visible role with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact for colleagues, customers, and partners by demonstrating the value of data as a strategic asset.
What you will do
- Apply advanced analytics to customer behaviour, including usage trends, product interaction, and transaction patterns, and turn findings into actionable recommendations.
- Design, deploy, and oversee machine learning models that support business priorities and stronger decision-making.
- Create data solutions, including new datasets and engineered features, to enable analytics that can scale reliably.
- Collaborate with teams across the organisation to promote the use of enterprise data platforms such as the Enterprise Data Warehouse and Data Lake.
- Develop dashboards and visual storytelling outputs, and partner with senior stakeholders to understand problems and shape practical solutions.
What will help you stand out
The strongest candidates will have proven experience in analytics and hands-on use of several machine learning approaches, including tree-based methods, supervised learning, ensemble techniques, and unsupervised methods.
You should be motivated by solving real business problems with data, comfortable working across a variety of modelling techniques, and able to turn complex information into insights that can be understood and acted on by others.
Confidence with Python and SQL is important, along with experience handling large datasets and working with modern analytics platforms. Experience with MLOps, model monitoring, and explainability is also valuable. Clear communication, teamwork, and the ability to share your views with stakeholders at different levels are essential, as is strong organisation and adaptability in a deadline-driven environment.
Desirable experience
- Background in financial services data analytics and senior stakeholder management.
- Experience building AI and machine learning pipelines, including clustering, classification, deep learning, and/or stochastic modelling.
- Familiarity with large language models, generative AI, and agent-based workflows.
Essential qualification
A third-level qualification in mathematics, statistics, finance, IT, or another subject with a substantial numerical component is required.
