Position Overview

Utah Valley University is seeking a Web Developer who will help create an engaging, accessible, and user-friendly digital presence for students, faculty, staff, and the wider community. In this role, you will work with teams across the university to turn varied needs into practical web solutions that improve usability, engagement, and accessibility. You will use modern web technologies and the institution’s content management system to support the university’s mission of delivering strong educational experiences online.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and update web pages and websites through the approved content management system.
• Develop and maintain public-facing and internal websites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related front-end tools in line with university standards and industry practices.
• Support assigned departments and staff with web help, routine maintenance, content updates, and technical troubleshooting.
• Coordinate with departments on website and related projects by following internal procedures and guidelines.
• Help keep projects on schedule, within scope, and aligned with established development methods and functionality expectations.
• Stay current with evolving front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery best practices, accessibility requirements, web analytics, SEO, and related topics.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of relevant experience.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Hands-on experience with front-end development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Preferred Experience

• Work experience using a content management system such as WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal.
• Exposure to responsive design and building websites that work across browsers and platforms.
• Knowledge of web standards and accessibility practices.
• Experience with SEO and web analytics tools.
• Understanding of UI and UX design principles.
• Working knowledge of server-side languages such as PHP.
• Familiarity with version control tools such as Git.
• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js.
• Comfort working in an agile development setting.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge

• Working knowledge of front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Understanding of content management systems such as WordPress, Drupal, or Joomla.
• Solid grasp of responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and mobile-first development.
• Awareness of web standards, accessibility guidance, and international web practices.
• Basic familiarity with SEO concepts and web analytics tools.
• Foundational knowledge of server-side scripting.

Skills

• Ability to design, develop, and manage websites and web pages with front-end languages and CMS tools.
• Skill in identifying and resolving web development issues.
• Strong general computer literacy and comfort with development tools and platforms.
• Working understanding of UI/UX principles for creating intuitive user experiences.
