System Engineer (Shikra-System)

Role overview

The Expert System Engineer for the Shikra system will work with the Maintenance & Technical Support Department and the client throughout the maintenance contract period. The role focuses on keeping radar, command-and-control, and supporting equipment available, reliable, and ready for operation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist guidance and hands-on support across the engineer’s area of expertise.
• Track and evaluate factors that influence system availability, Shikra performance, and the performance of the support chain, then recommend and carry out corrective actions locally and together with the France-based team.
• Assess the performance of Shikra systems, as well as data-processing and communications equipment.
• Oversee Built-In Test (BIT/BITE) hardware and software, review results, and suggest improvements.
• Carry out intermediate-level field maintenance within the relevant specialty when needed.
• Run diagnostics, advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on radar and C2 systems to keep them mission-ready.
• Identify and isolate complex electronic faults across hardware, software, and Line Replaceable Units using diagnostic procedures, self-tests, BITE, and specialised test tools.
• Assist the Mobile Maintenance Team and travel to remote locations to perform software maintenance, fault-finding, and on-the-job training.
• Coordinate with contractor experts in Europe to resolve issues and restore the Shikra system when problems cannot be solved independently.
• Share know-how with Saudi technicians and provide ongoing technical support and advice.

Core competencies and knowledge

• Practical background with radar systems, including primary and secondary radar, radar plot extractors, and interface equipment.
• Strong technical understanding of antennas, processors, computers, monitoring tools, data transmission, plot extractors, and power systems.
• Experience working in complex environments such as multicultural, multidisciplinary, and matrix organisations with customer-facing interactions.
• Good awareness of broader contractor support services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Radar Technology.
• Experience in system configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• At least 3 to 5 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of PSR/SSR radars, C2 systems, and communication equipment, including installation, testing, integration, upgrades, and modifications.
• Strong command of English; French is an advantage.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage interpersonal relationships effectively.
