Role overview

This term-time position at Bedford Modern School is for a storeman/driver supporting the school catering operation. The role focuses on moving catering and hospitality supplies around the site, handling deliveries, and helping maintain clean, well-run service areas.

The pay rate is £12.71 per hour. Working hours are 06:30/07:00 to 14:30/15:00, Monday to Friday, for 37.5 hours each week. The position is term time only.

What you will do

• Move catering and hospitality items to different areas across the school site.
• Receive deliveries and manage stock rotation.
• Keep the kitchen and restaurant spaces clean and orderly.
• Deliver a warm, efficient, and hygienic service to customers.
• Ensure service is prompt and that customer expectations are consistently surpassed.
• Stay visible and approachable during lunch service, especially at counters, to support customer needs quickly.
• Support general kitchen porter duties whenever needed.
• Show a helpful attitude and build knowledge of the food items sold across catering areas.
• Keep counters and service areas clean and fully stocked.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and carry out kitchen and service tasks as requested to maintain smooth operations.
• Complete required training in food safety, health and safety, and environmental practices.
• Follow the unit cleaning schedule carefully and consistently.

What is required

• A full, clean driving licence.
• Age 21 or above, with at least 2 years of driving experience.
• Good knowledge of health and safety practices.
• Some experience handling food or food storage areas.
• A flexible, positive, can-do attitude with a customer-focused approach.
• Energy, enthusiasm, and a friendly manner.
• Strong organisational ability and attention to detail.
• Teamworking skills and the ability to contribute positively to shared goals.
