Role summary
The Product Manager for Thermon Heating Systems (THS) will own the product portfolio across the full lifecycle, from understanding the market and shaping the product plan to launching new products in line with business goals. The position is based at the manufacturing facility at 5727 Superior Dr., Morristown, TN 37814 and reports to the Senior Manager, Product Management.
Core responsibilities
- Identify customer needs by determining the research required to gather meaningful market insights.
- Evaluate the competitive landscape by comparing THS offerings against competitor products.
- Shape current and future product direction by reviewing specifications, requirements, and proposals for new products or packaging updates.
- Create and maintain product roadmaps.
- Support product communication plans by defining the objectives for marketing messages and materials.
- Work with sales leadership to improve market share through effective product sales strategies.
- Collect market intelligence by visiting customers alongside the field sales team and reviewing the outcomes of sales calls.
- Prepare short- and long-term sales forecasts, management reports, and analysis for leadership decisions.
- Help maintain inventory flow and product availability by reviewing inventory levels and production schedules.
- Launch new products by analyzing product needs and development plans, preparing ROI analysis, and coordinating timelines with engineering and manufacturing.
- Introduce products to market through coordinated plans with sales, advertising, and production teams.
- Set pricing by using market research, production costs, sales costs, expected volume, and custom-order pricing factors.
- Monitor product quality and customer satisfaction, and lead sustaining improvements to resolve related issues.
- Plan for product phase-out by driving end-of-life and decommissioning activities and communications.
- Handle additional duties as assigned by management.
Preferred background
This role calls for a bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience, along with around 7 years in product management within a complex technical setting, ideally in the industrial sector. Candidates should understand the relevant market and its scale, feel confident presenting to large audiences and senior executives, and have experience negotiating complex projects and contract terms. Experience resolving customer complaints and critical issues is also important.
Skills and competencies
The ideal candidate should be able to drive change and ongoing improvement, build strong working relationships, lead cross-functional groups, create alignment across large teams, and collaborate effectively with senior leaders in a matrixed environment. This position also requires willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.
