Role overview
Parkland Corporation is hiring an Office Assistant for SOL (BARBADOS) LTD in Spring Garden, Barbados. The position reports to the Operations Administrative Assistant and has no direct reports.
The main purpose of the role is to deliver dependable, professional office support and to help the business use its resources efficiently for mail movement, courier runs, equipment handling, banking errands, and related administrative tasks.
Key duties
- Collect mail from the post office box, sort it, and distribute it to the right recipients.
- Apply postage to outgoing mail and take it to the post office.
- Handle external letters and parcels for urgent delivery, while keeping a proper record in the hand delivery log.
- Deliver mail to head office every day.
- Take salary deduction payments to the relevant institutions.
- Carry documents to the bank, make deposits, and collect cash safely and accurately.
- For larger cash movements, use an out-of-town branch for added safety.
- Keep photocopiers and fax machines supplied with paper each day.
- Bind documents when needed.
- Move equipment for conferences and courses, and retrieve it afterward.
- Buy supply items based on stock levels and staff requests.
- Maintain the vehicle in good working order and keep it presentable.
- Check the vehicle every morning against the inspection list and report any issues to the supervisor.
- Wear the company uniform for identification when on company business, while not displaying the company logo for safety reasons.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification, plus 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
- Comfort with basic computer work, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
- Strong knowledge of the Barbados market and local operating practices.
- Self-driven with the ability to plan work, stay motivated, and deliver results.
- Works well in teams and brings a positive, cooperative attitude.
- Good interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing with customers.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong time management and task organisation abilities to complete work on schedule.
- Careful attention to detail, especially when working on public roads to avoid injury or vehicle damage.
Additional information
In addition to the base salary, the selected candidate will receive relevant job grade allowances and may join the Sol Group Pension Scheme, along with the non-contributory Group Health and Life Insurance Scheme.
