About the Program

Sectra is offering students a distinctive year-long break opportunity that splits time between Sweden and Australia. The program is designed to move participants from classroom learning into practical, real-world work in a hands-on environment.

The company was started more than 40 years ago by a group of researchers and has since expanded into an international business with close to 1,200 employees across 15 countries. Sectra builds advanced products and services in medical IT and secure communications, with strong ties to research and innovation.

In medical IT, the company works closely with customers to create technology that helps improve patient care around the world. In secure communications, Sectra supports safer communication for governments and defense organizations.

Role Overview

As part of the student program, you will work with support teams in the Medical IT division. The role involves handling customer cases, logging them properly, and assisting in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues together with experienced engineers.

Program Structure and Timing

The program is divided into two phases: seven months in Sweden and six months in Australia. It is intended to give students meaningful experience that they can take back to their studies along with new knowledge and professional connections.

There are two annual intake options that follow the academic calendar:

• Summer intake: begins around mid-June in Sweden, with travel in early February and the ANZ placement running from early February to early August.
• Winter intake: begins around late January in Sweden, with travel in early August and the ANZ placement running from early August to early February.

For the January start, the application deadline is in September. For the June start, the deadline is in March. Recruitment is ongoing, so early application is encouraged.

Who Sectra Is Looking For

Sectra values attitude and learning ability over prior experience. The company places strong importance on people who can quickly absorb new information, adapt to new tasks, use past experience well, and think analytically. Clear, constructive communication with colleagues, partners, and customers is also important.

Applicants should currently be studying, or planning to study, engineering, computer science, IT, or a related area. They must be able to commit to the full 13-month program and be fluent in both Swedish and English. A curious mindset, quick learning ability, and a good sense of humor are also expected.

Experience in technology and additional language skills are considered advantages.

Additional Information

Applicants should be prepared for a full contract period of 13 months. The program is designed around a rotating schedule and includes travel between Sweden and Australia.

A sense of humor and an appreciation for coffee or tea are noted as welcome traits.
