Role Overview
BuzzClan is seeking a Data Governance Analyst for a 12-month contract in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The role supports a large SAP transformation by defining governance practices, clarifying data requirements, and helping ensure that master data remains accurate, consistent, and compliant across the organization.
You will partner with business teams, data stewards, and technical specialists to set ownership models, strengthen data quality, and support both implementation readiness and the long-term stability of the solution.
Expected Outcomes
- Set up and sustain standards for data governance.
- Assist with data migration efforts tied to master data governance tooling.
- Create, monitor, and report on data quality KPIs and metrics.
Core Responsibilities
- Draft and maintain policies and standards for SAP data objects such as customer, vendor, material, and finance data.
- Build and support operating models for data ownership and stewardship across business functions.
- Work with business and IT stakeholders to define data terms, business rules, and standard practices.
- Contribute to data migration work by performing cleansing, validation, and reconciliation for a master data governance tool rollout.
- Track and report on data quality measures and performance indicators.
- Help ensure adherence to internal controls and regulatory expectations for data management.
- Run governance workshops to align stakeholders on definitions, rules, and accountability.
- Review SOX compliance documentation and coordinate with control and audit teams to capture SOX-related needs.
- Keep data structures, metadata, and supporting documentation current in approved data catalogues.
- Support deployment of data governance tools and related workflows.
- Coordinate with functional groups such as Finance, Procurement, and Supply Chain to align data needs.
- Contribute to project closeout by confirming that all data deliverables are completed and formally approved.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required.
- Applicants should bring 3 to 7 years of experience in data governance, data management, or data quality.
- Experience supporting SAP implementations, preferably S/4HANA, is important.
- Solid knowledge of master data areas including Customer, Vendor, Material, and Finance is needed.
- Hands-on exposure to data migration, cleansing, validation, and broader data management practices is expected.
Technical and Functional Skills
- Understanding of SAP tables and how SAP data is structured.
- Broad knowledge of databases and data models, regardless of the platform used.
- Familiarity with SAP transaction codes such as SE16N and data extraction methods.
- Working knowledge of data profiling and data quality applications.
- Strong capability in Excel and data analysis.
- Exposure to data governance or metadata platforms such as Prospecta MDO, SAP MDG, Purview, DataSphere, or Information Steward is advantageous.
Preferred Background
- Experience on large ERP transformation initiatives is a plus.
- Background in regulated sectors such as energy, finance, or utilities is preferred.
- Awareness of data privacy, compliance, and other regulatory data requirements is beneficial.
