About LIQOMICS
LIQOMICS GmbH is a biotechnology company based in Cologne that focuses on analyzing circulating tumor DNA in blood samples through liquid biopsy. Its diagnostic solutions help physicians and cancer patients around the world make informed decisions before, during, and after treatment.
The company’s goal is ambitious: using innovative diagnostics to help drive preventable cancer-related deaths toward zero.
Role summary
LIQOMICS is hiring a Computational Biologist with practical experience in next-generation sequencing data analysis. The position is suited to someone who enjoys working with genomic data, developing analytical approaches, and uncovering meaningful biological patterns from sequencing outputs.
Key responsibilities
- Create, refine, and maintain bioinformatics workflows for cfDNA analysis.
- Examine noise, bias, and technical artefacts in NGS datasets and develop computational approaches to reduce their impact.
- Carry out in-depth exploratory analysis on large sequencing datasets to form and evaluate biological hypotheses.
- Develop statistical and machine learning models to identify low-allele-fraction somatic variants, tumor-derived signals, and other cfDNA-related features.
- Work closely with wet-lab researchers to turn biological questions into computational experiments and interpret outcomes in a way that is meaningful in a clinical setting.
Required background
- A university degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong Python skills for data analysis, statistical modeling, and pipeline development.
- Practical experience working with large genomic datasets, ideally with exposure to cfDNA and liquid biopsy data.
- Solid understanding of the technical difficulties associated with NGS and cfDNA, including low allele fractions, fragment-level signals, and noise modeling.
- Experience building statistical models or machine learning solutions.
Application note
A cover letter is required and should be limited to one page. The team values concrete examples of your own work, since individual contributions are highly visible in the organization.
- Explain why this role interests you and what you are looking for in your next step, including your preferred work environment if relevant.
- Describe a pipeline or analysis you are particularly proud of, such as an NGS workflow, variant calling approach, or noise model. Explain what made it challenging, what your specific contribution was, and whether it was used in research, production, or clinical work.
- Share a project where you delivered your best work, outlining your role, the outcome, and what you would improve or extend next time.
Benefits
You will join a friendly and energetic team with varied professional experience, strong team spirit, and a mission-driven culture. At LIQOMICS, you can actively influence your area of work, see the direct impact of your contributions, and access broad development opportunities that support your career growth.
