Role Overview
The Clinical Assistant acts as an operational and client-facing support partner for hospice pharmacy benefit management. The position helps ensure appropriate medication use, supports claims and prior authorization activities, assists hospice customers, and keeps clinical and technology systems running smoothly so patient care is not interrupted.
This role sits at the crossroads of clinical support, pharmacy operations, and technology, with a strong focus on removing administrative obstacles, improving medication access, and building strong working relationships with hospice providers.
Key Responsibilities
Medication management and cost control
- Flag expensive or clinically unsuitable medications before claims are submitted.
- Reach out to hospice partners to discuss possible alternatives and formulary options.
- Help lower rejected claims, processing delays, and avoidable medication costs.
Claims and prior authorization support
- Keep medication records, eligibility details, and backup documents accurate and complete.
- Assist with claims investigation, prior authorization requirements, and claim resolution.
- Support prompt workflow handling so patient care is not disrupted.
Hospice client support and relationship management
- Respond quickly and professionally to hospice staff questions about pharmacy benefit services.
- Act as a reliable contact for workflow, platform, and operational concerns.
- Follow up proactively until issues are resolved and client needs are met.
- Help strengthen client relationships through consistent communication and strong service.
E-prescribing platform support
- Train hospice staff on the use of multiple e-prescribing systems.
- Troubleshoot access problems and technical issues that could delay prescribing.
- Encourage effective use of platforms and broader adoption among hospice partners.
Operational workflow management
- Handle several queues, requests, and support tasks while meeting service expectations.
- Document questions, actions, and resolutions clearly to support team coordination and continuity.
- Keep provider, user, and organization records up to date to avoid workflow interruptions.
System integrity and data management
- Maintain accurate, complete, and current medication records, user profiles, and system data.
- Work with proprietary and external pharmacy technology tools.
- Spot and escalate data mismatches, integration problems, and system issues to the right teams.
Cross-functional collaboration
- Serve as a bridge between hospice staff, clinical pharmacists, operations teams, and technical support.
- Take part in joint troubleshooting and resolution efforts across functions.
- Help deliver a consistent, high-quality support experience across all service channels.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- A current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential or an active Registered Pharmacy Technician license, where state rules require it, is mandatory.
- Knowledge of medication claims processing, pharmacy benefit management, and prior authorization workflows is needed.
- Prior experience researching medication discrepancies, eligibility issues, and claim-related questions is expected.
- Strong client service skills with the ability to support healthcare customers professionally and responsively are important.
- Comfort with learning and using several software tools, pharmacy systems, and e-prescribing platforms is required.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills are necessary for working across clinical, operational, and technical teams.
- Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities, maintain detailed records, and stay effective in a fast-moving environment is required.
Additional Information
Physical requirements: This job involves extended computer use with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse; frequent repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movements; bending, stooping, and reaching for supplies and equipment; and lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving light items up to 20 pounds. The role also requires clear verbal communication, the ability to hear important information, and good visual attention to detail.

Compensation and Benefits
Pay range: $19.00 to $20.00 per hour.
Commission: Not eligible.
