Role overview
Seven West Media is hiring a Video Journalist to join its Perth newsroom. This role suits a journalist who wants to strengthen their career, build on-camera presence, and contribute to news coverage in a city known for its natural surroundings and outdoor lifestyle.
As part of the WA News team, you will help create content that supports the daily news bulletin and contributes to the broader growth of the network. The position offers the chance to develop video journalism capabilities in a collaborative media environment.
Key responsibilities
- Create fresh story ideas each day for broadcast and digital audiences.
- Conduct interviews, write copy, and deliver voice content.
- Participate in live broadcasting as needed.
- Build and maintain a network of community contacts.
- Research stories and prepare news pieces both on location and from the office.
- Produce feature stories across specific topic areas.
What the role calls for
The ideal candidate is comfortable appearing on camera and performs well in news gathering, writing, interviewing, and presenting information. You should be able to work accurately and under strict deadlines, and understand the rules that apply to broadcast journalism.
- Previous experience in video journalism.
- Demonstrated ability to write news stories.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet exacting turnaround times.
- Working knowledge of Broadcast Law Guidelines.
- A tertiary qualification in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
