About the role

This position is part of the Search team at Google, working on the infrastructure that powers Search experiences at a very large scale. The team is focused on building systems that are dependable, efficient, and able to support fast-moving product evolution, including AI-first experiences such as AI Overviews and AI Mode. The work contributes to products used by billions of people around the world.

As a software engineer in this role, you will contribute to a specific project that is important to Google’s business needs, with the flexibility to move across teams and projects as priorities evolve. The role calls for strong technical depth, adaptability, leadership potential, and comfort taking on new challenges across the full stack.

Minimum qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent level of hands-on professional experience.
• At least 2 years of programming experience in one or more of the following: C++, Java, Python, or Go.

Preferred qualifications

• A master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or a closely related technical discipline.
• 2 years of experience working with data structures and algorithms.
• Background in building accessible technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop product and system code for production use.
• Take part in, or lead, design discussions with peers and stakeholders to evaluate technical options.
• Review teammates’ code and provide feedback focused on coding standards, correctness, testability, efficiency, and overall quality.
• Contribute to documentation and learning materials, updating them when products, programs, or user feedback change.
• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve product or system issues by tracing root causes and assessing their effect on hardware, network, or service performance and reliability.
