Overview
Milken Community School in Los Angeles is hiring a full-time School Nurse to support student health and wellness in an on-campus setting. The role is centered on providing direct nursing care, assessing student needs, managing health plans, and acting as a dependable health resource for students, families, faculty, and staff. The school is mission-driven and rooted in Jewish values, with a focus on helping students grow into thoughtful, capable people who positively impact others.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out student health assessments and collect relevant health histories.
- Work autonomously in the school clinic, often handling 35 to 50+ student visits per day without a physician present.
- Perform screening checks for vision, hearing, growth, and other health concerns.
- Monitor students for developmental, medical, or other health-related concerns.
- Recognize abnormal findings and decide on the proper next steps.
- Create and put into action individualized student health plans.
- Share student health information with parents, school personnel, and other appropriate professionals.
- Make referrals and track follow-up with parents, staff, or community health services.
- Provide health guidance and counseling to students, families, and staff.
- Keep cumulative health records current, reviewed, and properly interpreted.
- Carry out school health management procedures and protocols.
- Support health education efforts and wellness initiatives across the school.
- Complete additional duties as needed.
Requirements
- A current Registered Nurse license is required.
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
- Authorization to administer over-the-counter medication is required.
- Current CPR or Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Strong understanding of professional nursing principles and practices.
- Working knowledge of state and local laws covering health and social concerns.
- Sound clinical judgment and the ability to protect confidentiality.
- Clear communication skills for working with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies.
- Ability to keep a health office organized and running efficiently.
- Professional appearance and behavior expected at all times.
- Self-directed and comfortable working independently.
- Flexible, committed, and consistently professional in conduct.
- Knowledge of emergency triage and the ability to initiate emergency procedures.
- Willingness to support the Director of Operations and other departments with reasonable non-nursing or health and safety related tasks.
- Comfort using computers and common productivity tools, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
Work Schedule
The standard on-campus schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required, and schedules are subject to change.
Compensation and Benefits
