Role overview

Downer is seeking a permanent Range Operator to work mainly from RAAF Base Wagga or Kapooka. The role sits within Downer’s Property and Asset Services work supporting Defence sites, with occasional travel to a nearby base when range assistance or first-fire response is required. A vehicle will be provided for this travel.

Key duties

• Assist the Range Supervisor with day-to-day operation and basic upkeep of range facilities, including site security and adherence to range standing orders and safety rules.
• Carry out grounds maintenance and respond to first-fire situations.
• Perform basic checks, maintenance, and general care of training areas and ranges.
• Support inspections and help maintain safety and compliance with applicable standards.
• Contribute to specialist training-area and range performance activities.
• Provide information and updates that assist the Range Supervisor with reporting.

What you should bring

Downer is looking for someone with practical maintenance experience and a hands-on approach. Experience or familiarity with facilities maintenance, minor repairs, or caretaker duties will be helpful, along with an interest in outdoor and grounds work such as mowing, gardening, trimming, and storm clean-up tasks. A current open driver’s licence is required. A Medium Rigid truck licence and a Range Induction Course are desirable. The successful applicant must be able to obtain and keep a Defence security clearance, which requires Australian citizenship. The job also requires completion of relevant Public Safety Training Package units.
