About the Role
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-focused paralegal with solid experience to support a legal team handling family law matters. In this position, you will prepare legal paperwork, assist with trial preparation through research, and keep case-related records orderly and easy to retrieve. This role also offers room to grow within the paralegal profession.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare court-related documents and office correspondence, including subpoenas, pleadings, interrogatories, deposition notices, complaints, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits, while ensuring accuracy and strong legal attention to detail.
- Submit pleadings through electronic filing for the Massachusetts Probate & Family Court and make sure all filings meet court rules and formatting requirements.
- Serve as the main contact for the Massachusetts Virtual Registry to check on filings and resolve filing-related questions.
- Track filing progress and court hearing dates, follow up with the court when needed, and record all dates accurately on the office calendar.
- Act as a reassuring first contact for clients by providing updates, answering concerns, and helping maintain confidence in the legal process.
- Take part in weekly team meetings and client meetings when needed, sharing updates that support case movement and management.
- Manage the office filing system by uploading documents into Clio, answering phone calls, and keeping case information well organized and easy to locate.
- Update records in Clio as needed and ensure all billable time is entered into the system every day.
Requirements
- An ABA-approved paralegal certificate program, associate degree, or proprietary paralegal studies program is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience supporting attorneys or lawyers in a law firm environment is needed, with family law or divorce experience considered an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal abilities, fluent English, and excellent writing and grammar skills are essential.
- Excellent organization, time management, and a quick ability to learn are expected, along with familiarity using AI tools for legal research.
- Completion of a nationally accredited paralegal program in the US is strongly preferred.
- A strong comfort with technology and the ability to adopt new tools quickly are important for success in this role.
Compensation and Benefits
The position pays $7 per hour, with weekly payment processing using your preferred payment method. Paid time off accrual begins after 90 days, and holiday pay becomes available after the same 90-day period.
Additional Information
This is a full-time onsite position based in South Africa. The role involves working with Massachusetts Probate & Family Court filings and related legal administration.
