Places for People Group is a social enterprise focused on strengthening communities by building homes and delivering services that help people and neighbourhoods thrive. Through Places Leisure, the organisation is committed to improving health and wellbeing and aims to become the UK’s leading enabler of active living.
The company emphasises support, appreciation and inclusion for its people, with a culture that treats employees as part of the wider mission rather than just headcount.
About the role
An opportunity is available for a Lifeguard at Places Leisure in a lively, team-based environment. The role is suited to someone who enjoys working with others and contributing to a positive customer experience.
A National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is preferred, but candidates who are highly safety-aware, competent swimmers and motivated to build their skills may be supported through learning and development to achieve the qualification.
This role can also be a strong starting point for wider career progression, with potential pathways into operational management, sales, fitness, customer service and apprenticeship-based routes.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor customers and fellow lifeguards across swimming and pool areas to maintain safe use of the facilities.
- Take responsibility for health and safety in the pool environment and help oversee the general operation of the building.
- Remain alert to detail to ensure visitors can use the facilities safely and confidently.
- Provide courteous, professional and high-quality customer service at all times.
- Maintain strong standards of cleanliness and respond to cleaning needs when required.
Training and development
The role includes ongoing training, regular competency assessments and access to learning opportunities such as first aid at work training, swimming teacher qualifications and apprenticeship options.
Benefits
- 2% bonus scheme for all colleagues.
- Full Health & Fitness membership for you, one nominated adult and up to four juniors.
- Flexible working options, including part-time schedules and shift work.
- Option to buy extra annual leave.
- Access to continued personal learning and development.
- Company pension scheme.
- Cashback support for healthcare costs, with savings of up to £500 per year.
- Up to 50% discount on activities, centre shop purchases and cafés.
- Additional discounts and offers from shops, cinemas and other partners.
Safeguarding and hiring process
Safeguarding is treated as a shared responsibility. The organisation is committed to protecting children, young people and adults at risk, and follows robust policies and procedures to help maintain a safe environment for customers, colleagues, volunteers and contractors.
Recruitment may include pre-employment screening, including DBS checks where relevant, to support safety and accountability in the workplace.
Who this role suits
This opportunity is ideal for someone who is safety-conscious, customer-focused, comfortable working in a pool environment and keen to grow within the leisure, fitness or operations sector.
