Role overview

The Laboratory Technician will prepare and analyse customer food samples while maintaining high standards of efficiency, quality, and accuracy. A structured training plan will begin when employment starts and will be reviewed as part of the employee’s development journey.

This is a full-time onsite position based in Dungarvan, County Waterford, Ireland. The role covers 39 hours per week, worked Wednesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:15, with an 18:30 finish on Fridays, and Sunday from 08:00 to 16:15. During training, the schedule is Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:15.

Key duties

  • Prepare food samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Build competence in laboratory practices and the requirements that support sample analysis.
  • Learn the relevant test methods and procedures, including SOPs.
  • Make sure client samples are processed within required timeframes and escalate delays to a Senior Technician or Laboratory Manager.
  • Record samples accurately and promptly in the system.
  • Complete all required paperwork clearly, accurately, and on time.
  • Verify weights and temperatures according to company procedures.
  • Keep essential lab supplies such as pipettes and autoclave bags stocked.
  • Maintain compliance with the 17025 standard by following internal quality procedures.
  • Keep training records updated and take initiative to progress training where possible.
  • Follow safety, housekeeping, and quality standards, and report any issues to a Senior Technician or Laboratory Manager.
  • Keep the laboratory clean and orderly.
  • Clean laboratory equipment as needed, including fridges, incubators, and water baths.
  • Ensure sanitiser bottles and beakers are replenished, replaced regularly, and correctly labelled.
  • Check that no reagents or media in the laboratory are past their expiry date.
  • File all documentation linked to customer samples.
  • Take part in proficiency testing when directed by a Senior Technician.
  • Cover colleagues when needed and participate in the weekend rota.
  • Remain flexible to work across different areas of the business as required.
