Role overview
Onebright is seeking a Junior Software Test Engineer focused on automation to join its internal technology function in York. This position is suited to someone who enjoys improving software quality, building dependable automated checks, and working closely with technical teams in an Agile SCRUM setting.
You will contribute to the verification of modern, microservices-based systems and help ensure that internal and third-party platforms perform reliably. The role offers scope to influence test design, execution, and ongoing quality enhancement within a collaborative environment.
Key responsibilities
- Create, develop, and run automated tests that validate system quality and performance.
- Build and support scalable automation frameworks using Playwright.
- Carry out system, functional, and regression testing across both internal and external systems.
- Review test outcomes to uncover defects and performance concerns, and support continual improvement.
- Participate in Agile SCRUM ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and refinement meetings.
- Partner with developers and stakeholders to help deliver customer-focused digital solutions.
- Share progress updates, risks, and blockers with the Software Test Lead.
Candidate profile
The organisation is open to applicants who bring the core capabilities needed to fit into the testing and development environment, with additional automation training available even for those without extensive experience.
This is a hybrid position based in York, with at least two days per week required onsite.
Required experience and attributes
- Hands-on background in manual testing, ideally with at least 2 years of experience.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills.
- Exposure to automation testing with Playwright and an interest in developing scalable test frameworks.
- Comfort working in an Agile SCRUM environment.
- Ability to analyse issues, raise defects clearly, and contribute to quality improvement.
