Role overview

IKEA Southampton is hiring an Interior Designer, referred to within the business as an Interior Design Co-Worker. This is a practical, store-based position for someone who can turn creative ideas into functional, visually engaging spaces that reflect IKEA’s identity. The role focuses on planning spaces, choosing suitable IKEA products and materials, and delivering design solutions that balance style with everyday usability.

The job is very hands-on. You will work across the store using tools and ladders while helping create display rooms and implement design projects on the shop floor.

What the job involves

• Use interior design expertise to strengthen the IKEA brand and create inspiring customer experiences, particularly through soft furnishings and styling.
• Plan eye-catching commercial displays in line with the store’s trading calendar.
• Spend much of your time bringing design concepts to life on the shop floor.
• Work closely with different teams to help deliver a smooth shopping journey.
• Support the store’s aim of being the preferred home furnishing destination in the local market.
• Keep up to date with trends in home furnishing and retail presentation.

What you need to bring

You should have a qualification in interior design and be comfortable using design tools and software such as Autodesk REVIT, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office. The role suits someone who is enthusiastic about home furnishings, style, and how people live, and who can bring fresh ideas that inspire customers.

A practical, hands-on mindset is important, along with confidence using hand tools and working at heights. You should also be able to work independently, stay organised, manage time well, and see projects through efficiently.

Working pattern and offer

The planned start date is 26 July 2026. Interviews are scheduled between 02 July and 08 July. The salary starts at £27,541 per year and will be based on competence and experience.

This is a 39-hour weekly role, working 5 days out of 7, with occasional weekends depending on business needs. Usual shift times are 07:30am to 16:00pm. Flexibility can be discussed during the interview to suit both your circumstances and the business.

Recruitment process
