About the Role
As a Department Manager, you will lead and motivate your team while helping build a workplace culture rooted in inclusion, collaboration, and entrepreneurial thinking. Your focus will be on delivering a strong operational and visual store experience for customers and colleagues, understanding market strengths and opportunities, monitoring sales performance, and turning insights into plans that improve results and profitability.
A Day in the Role
This position is varied, fast-moving, and centered on store leadership, commercial execution, and team development.
Customer Sales & Profit
- Own the overall OMNI customer experience in your department, ensuring visual and commercial standards align with global guidance.
- Present the H&M brand in a positive and professional way in every customer interaction.
- Identify your department’s commercial strengths and opportunities, then take action to improve performance.
- Set, review, and analyse sales and budget targets, and build plans to strengthen results and profit.
- Make sure customer service is consistently delivered across the store and that the team actively supports selling.
- Ensure the team promotes the Customer Loyalty App (Hello Member) and in-store sustainability efforts.
- Run the department in a cost-conscious and efficient manner.
- Maintain correct routines in fitting rooms and checkout, including transactions, returns, and exchanges.
- Keep all administrative routines for people and operations accurate and up to date.
Fashion & Trend Awareness
- Stay informed about fashion trends, styles, brands, competitors, influencers, and changes in the market.
- Make sure the team shares useful product and fashion knowledge with customers during interactions.
Team & Development
- Handle recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and ongoing development for the store team.
- Carry out performance reviews and succession planning to support both business needs and team growth.
- Share knowledge, coach others, and help strengthen team capability.
- Work closely with the in-store Visual Merchandiser team through planning and collaboration.
- Exchange feedback with colleagues to support learning and development.
- Own team planning and scheduling.
- Communicate regularly with store colleagues through daily and weekly meetings to inform, encourage, and engage them.
- Make sure procedures, routines, and legal requirements are followed in all parts of the store.
- Take part in onboarding, training, and other development activities relevant to the role.
Retail Operations / Visual & Commercial Execution
- Maintain a clean and organized sales floor, back office, and stockroom.
- Ensure strong fashion quality, visual presentation, commercial presentation, and garment care standards.
- Maintain healthy stock levels and provide allocation input to the Area team.
- Oversee the full garment flow from delivery through presentation, including fitting room routines, using the tools and technology provided.
- Support in-store OMNI services and tech tools such as Instore Care App, Click & Collect, and Smart Store.
- Maintain pricing signs and price perception across the store in line with global and local strategy.
- Keep back-of-house areas updated with key information, health and safety details, and general tidiness.
- Be responsible for opening and closing the store each day.

Additional Information
The expected base salary for this role is $48,100 to $68,543 annually. This range is provided in good faith and may change depending on qualifications or future updates to the role.
