About the Role
Shutterfly creates products that help people preserve meaningful moments and express themselves in a personal way. The team is looking for a meticulous Consumer Research & Insights Manager to lead consumer research work that informs decisions across the company.
In this position, you will act as the voice of the customer for the category, planning and running research that helps shape brand direction, messaging, innovation, and the overall customer experience. The role calls for someone with a strong consumer insights background who can work closely with senior stakeholders and turn research into clear, persuasive business stories.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and run custom studies using both qualitative and quantitative methods, including survey design, programming, analysis, and synthesis of results.
- Review data and translate the findings into practical business implications and growth opportunities.
- Work with leadership to deepen customer empathy and help insights influence decisions.
- Maintain brand health tracking and prepare quarterly reporting that summarizes trends and business impact.
- Handle ad hoc and DIY research from end to end, including survey writing, tool setup, testing, data gathering, analysis, and reporting.
- Manage customer satisfaction survey data, including the database or platform, data quality, governance, and recurring reporting.
- Bring together learnings from multiple studies to develop a broad view of consumers, competitors, and market trends.
- Support RFP activities and coordinate large vendor-led research projects.
- Help cross-functional teams apply research insights to a variety of business questions and platforms.
- Apply strong quality control practices to ensure the accuracy and reliability of all data and outputs.
- Work independently, adapt quickly, and solve problems across different research tools, datasets, and business needs.
- Look for ways to improve processes, strengthen deliverables, and increase the business value of insights work.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as marketing, business, or statistics.
- At least 6 years of experience in consumer insights, either in-house or with a market research supplier.
- Proven ability to design and execute research studies with minimal supervision.
- Strong capability to analyze research findings and turn them into actionable recommendations.
- Hands-on experience with brand health tracking and customer satisfaction databases.
- Exposure to a wide range of research approaches, including segmentation, customer interviews, MaxDiff, and conjoint analysis.
- Working knowledge of survey platforms such as Qualtrics, Toluna Quick Surveys, Suzy, or SurveyMonkey.
- Intermediate-level analytical skills with tools like Excel and SPSS or similar software.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex data simply.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience moderating qualitative interviews.
- Ability to refine insights and narratives based on feedback, with a collaborative and coachable approach.
- Familiarity with advanced statistical methods.
Additional Information
This is a remote role, but candidates must live in a state where Shutterfly is authorized to do business. Eligible states include all US states except District of Columbia, North Dakota, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wyoming.

Compensation and Benefits
The base salary depends on location, role level, responsibilities, and experience. Location-based ranges are:
- California: $101,000 to $143,000
- Connecticut and New York: $101,000 to $131,000
- Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, and Washington: $101,000 to $121,250
- Nevada: $95,000 to $131,000
- Maryland and New Jersey: $109,000 to $131,000
- Hawaii: $95,000 to $114,000
The position may also qualify for a bonus incentive, health coverage, a 401(k) plan, and other employee benefits.
