Role Summary
This position focuses on monitoring and operating plant systems such as the Boiler, Turbine, Generator, Balance of Plant (BOP), switchyard, and transformer areas to maintain reliable performance. The role also covers start-up and shut-down activities, Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) operations, equipment upkeep, energy-saving initiatives, and compliance with environmental norms.
Core Duties
As a Control Room Engineer / Lead Desk Engineer / Lead FGD / Switchyard Engineer, you will oversee day-to-day plant operations, react to operational deviations, and support safe and efficient power generation.
- Track Boiler, Turbine, Generator, BOP, and electrical systems closely to keep them running at optimal levels.
- Carry out plant start-up and shut-down procedures when needed.
- Continuously watch key operating parameters and take quick action when any variation is detected.
- Perform regular equipment changeovers and trial runs of emergency drives.
- Manage BTG-related emergencies and coordinate response activities.
- Address switchyard and grid-related emergencies to reduce operational disruption.
- Ensure equipment is safely isolated and returned to service as per operational or emergency requirements.
- Operate and monitor the FGD system and its parameters.
- Maintain accurate and current logbooks for all plant parameters.
- Drive energy conservation efforts with attention to SOC, APC, DM water consumption, and heat rate.
- Monitor important chemistry parameters to support environmental compliance and plant efficiency.
- Oversee FGD operations to help reduce emissions and meet regulatory standards.
- Follow IMS, AWMS, DISHA, and CHETNA practices within the department.
- Protect personnel and equipment by adhering to safety procedures and training requirements.
- Work in line with PTW procedures and standard operating procedures.
- Escalate plant defects and operational issues to the shift in charge without delay.
- Support digitization efforts aimed at improving operational performance.
- Contribute to automation initiatives that align with business objectives.
- Suggest and implement process improvements and modern technology-based solutions.
Stakeholders
Internal coordination is expected primarily with Maintenance Engineers. No external stakeholder is specified.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should hold a BE/B.Tech degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related discipline from a recognized institution. The role requires at least 9 years of experience in power plant operations, preferably in thermal power generation.
