Senior Front End Engineer

Role overview

ReadMe is seeking a Senior Front End Engineer to take ownership of the product surfaces that thousands of developers interact with every day, including the editor, documentation experience, and other interactive parts of the platform. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of visual design, performance, and developer experience, with a strong focus on making the product fast, intuitive, and enjoyable to use.

You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team where your work can meaningfully influence both the product and the culture. ReadMe supports more than 5,000 startups and technology companies in building polished, personalized, and interactive developer hubs, and its tools are used by teams at companies such as PagerDuty, Samsara, and Nvidia.

What you will do

In this role, you will help create new user experiences and rethink how existing features should work in a modern product environment. You will be embedded within a product team and work closely with design, backend, and infrastructure partners to deliver thoughtful frontend solutions that feel great for customers.

Growth expectations

Within your first month, you should be able to ship a user interface improvement, understand the team’s build-review-deploy workflow, and get familiar with the React and TypeScript codebase, including state management and server-to-client data flow.

Within a few months, you should be leading frontend projects from planning through launch and making visible improvements to performance, polish, or core product experiences.

Within your first year, you should be helping guide frontend tooling decisions, delivering major improvements used daily by thousands of developers, and contributing to how modern APIs are designed and consumed.

This opportunity is a strong fit for someone who enjoys taking ownership, cares deeply about customer experience, and wants to ship high-quality work quickly. You should be comfortable building tools used by developers, technical writers, product owners, and other customer types every day.

Locations

Open to candidates based in San Francisco, New York, or Columbus in hybrid arrangements, as well as fully remote candidates located in the United States.

Hiring process

• Submit your resume and a cover letter that shares what excites you about full stack engineering and helps the team understand your background and personality.
• Selected candidates will have a 30-minute introductory Zoom conversation with an Engineering Manager.
• There will be a second 30-minute Zoom interview with the VP of Engineering.
• Shortlisted applicants will complete a technical assessment with a couple of engineers.
• Final round interviews are conducted over Zoom and usually last between 3.5 and 5 hours, including a one-hour break. The schedule can be split across two days if needed. The session begins with a 15-minute introductory meeting and continues with one-on-one conversations.
• Applicants are typically informed of the outcome within a week, and successful candidates receive an offer.
