Role Overview
The business is seeking a Senior Estimator & Cost Planner to join its Estimating Team in Sydney. The role sits within a collaborative environment and supports tendering for major projects across the Health, Defence, Commercial, Marine, and Rail sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Take a leading role in the estimating function, making sure all resource and cost factors are fully accounted for.
- Stay current on existing and emerging construction methods, products, and delivery approaches, including the cost implications of each.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, government bodies, clients, and industry consultants.
- Use industry software to produce clear and well-structured cost plans and tender submissions.
- Prepare tenders under D&C, GMP, Turnkey, and other contractual arrangements.
- Support the team in tender negotiations and related conditions.
- Gather cost information from suppliers, subcontractors, and completed projects.
- Track project costs and suggest alternative cost options where needed.
Requirements
- A degree in a relevant field, along with strong practical experience in cost planning and estimating.
- Solid knowledge of construction techniques and proven capability with industry software.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to work independently, use initiative, apply sound judgement, listen well, and make effective decisions.
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to develop productive relationships with colleagues and team members.
- Experience performing well in high-pressure environments and delivering results.
- A professional, mature, and candid approach to day-to-day work.
- The ability to apply logical thinking to both practical and complex problems.
