Role Overview

HungerStation is looking for a Senior Data Engineer I to create, expand, and scale the data platform and processing layers that support analytics, AI-powered products, and business intelligence across the company. The position is central to the data ecosystem, with an emphasis on scalability, dependable operations, and high system performance.

What You Will Do

• Architect, develop, and enhance scalable data platforms and system designs.
• Create and support fast, reliable data pipelines and data models in BigQuery.
• Tune datasets and workloads to improve performance and reduce cloud costs.
• Develop analytics-ready models, semantic layers, and governed metrics.
• Build backend APIs and services in Python or Java to enable data products.
• Contribute to AI-based data solutions such as automated insights and conversational analytics.
• Reduce technical debt and address scaling bottlenecks to strengthen platform reliability.
• Apply strong engineering practices across CI/CD, testing, observability, and deployment automation.
• Administer and optimize the cloud infrastructure that supports the data platform.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to maintain data quality and engineering consistency.
• Ensure adherence to data governance, privacy, and security requirements.
• Enhance monitoring capabilities and operational resilience for the data platform.
• Help improve data quality, reliability, and overall platform stability.

Requirements

• 5 to 8 years of experience in data engineering or a closely related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A master’s degree or relevant certifications will be considered an advantage.
• Strong background in building scalable distributed data systems.
• Practical experience with GCP, with BigQuery as the preferred warehouse.
• Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and data modeling.
• Familiarity with modern data tools such as Airflow, dbt, and Looker.
• Excellent SQL skills and a solid understanding of relational databases.
• Experience using Python or Java for backend or data services.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
• Experience with CI/CD workflows, automated testing, and monitoring.
• Exposure to AI-driven data products or LLM integrations is a plus.
