About the Role
Compass Community is seeking a caring and dependable Residential Support Worker to join a children’s home in Lydden, England. The role focuses on providing consistent, therapeutic care that helps children feel accepted, build confidence and move toward adulthood in a positive environment. This opportunity may suit people with prior experience in residential care or youth work, as well as candidates who are new to the sector and want to develop a career in residential childcare.

Who This Role Is For
The ideal candidate is someone who can build trust, remain calm in difficult moments and show genuine compassion. Applicants must be at least 22 years old to comply with Ofsted rules and must hold a valid manual driving licence. Prior experience is not required, as full induction and training are provided.
Training and Development
New joiners receive a Skills to Care induction made up of two classroom-based training weeks and one week of shadow shifts. The role also includes support to complete a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, which is intended to be achieved within 12 months. After qualification, the employee will be a Level 3 qualified Residential Support Worker, with continued support for professional growth and progression.
Key Duties
You will help children take part in everyday activities, attend appointments and receive support across all areas of their lives. Safeguarding, health and wellbeing will be central to your work. The post involves supporting children and young people with varying needs, including those requiring close supervision. You will also assist with household tasks such as cleaning, cooking and shopping, as well as help with timetables, records and written reports.
Benefits
The position comes with a starting salary of £29,390, plus £60 for each sleep-in shift. Holiday entitlement begins at 224 hours and increases gradually to 248 hours after four years. In addition, employees receive 3.5 extra days of leave for a birthday, health and wellbeing, volunteering and festive celebrations.
Other rewards include long-service payments of £200 after 2 years, £400 after 5 years and £600 after 10 years, along with a special recognition award of up to £500 for outstanding practice.
