About the Role
The Philipps University of Marburg, founded in 1527, is seeking a part-time research assistant for the Faculty of Law at the Institute for Criminal Sciences, in the chair for Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Criminology, and Medical Criminal Law under Prof. Dr. Jens Puschke LL.M. (King’s College). The position begins as soon as possible and is limited to 3 years, subject to any qualifying prior periods that must be credited. The role is classified under pay grade E 13 of the Hessen public-sector collective agreement (TV-H) and is based on 50% of the regular working time.
Key Duties
- Provide academic support in research and teaching in criminal law, criminal procedure, criminology, juvenile criminal law, and medical criminal law.
- Contribute to article-writing and commentary projects.
- Support research focused on investigations and interrogations in criminal proceedings.
- Prepare and keep teaching materials up to date, and help develop take-home assignments and exams.
- Independently lead tutorial or working-group sessions.
- Carry out scholarly work as part of the role, with the aim of supporting the candidate’s own academic qualification.
Candidate Profile
The appointment is expected to follow Section 2(1) of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG). Applicants should have completed at least the first state examination in law, no later than October 2026 at the time of hiring. Strong interest in the subject area is required, along with solid computer skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The university is also looking for good planning ability, teamwork, and communication skills. A willingness to pursue an academic qualification independently is expected.
