Purchasing & MRP Planner

Role overview

This opportunity is for an experienced Purchasing and MRP Planner to support a busy food manufacturing operation in Ireland. The position sits within the Supply Chain function and focuses on making sure raw materials and packaging are ordered on time, stock is accurately controlled, and production can continue without disruption through effective materials planning.

Key responsibilities

• Plan materials through the MRP system so ingredient and packaging supply matches production plans and forecasted demand.
• Create and oversee purchase orders for ingredients, packaging, and other indirect materials.
• Keep inventory at efficient levels while avoiding shortages and production delays.
• Track stock carefully with attention to shelf life, batch traceability, and FEFO/FIFO methods.
• Partner with Production, Scheduling, QA, Warehouse, and NPD teams to keep material flow aligned.
• Work with suppliers on lead times, pricing, delivery timing, and overall performance.
• Assist with supplier tenders, sourcing activity, and cost-saving initiatives.
• Maintain ERP/MRP master data, including lead times, minimum order quantities, shelf-life details, and supplier records.
• Manage shortages, supply interruptions, material substitutions, and backup plans when needed.
• Support traceability, regulatory compliance, and food safety standards across materials planning activities.

What the employer is looking for

Applicants should have prior experience in purchasing, procurement, materials planning, or supply chain work within food manufacturing or FMCG. Strong working knowledge of ERP/MRP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, Infor, Microsoft Dynamics, or comparable systems is important. The role also calls for an understanding of inventory control for perishable goods, plus familiarity with HACCP, BRC, ISO, and other food manufacturing compliance requirements. Advanced Excel ability, strong analytical thinking, clear communication, supplier management, and problem-solving skills are also essential.

Desirable background

A degree or diploma in Supply Chain, Business, Food Science, or a related field would be an advantage. An APICS or CPIM qualification is also desirable, as is experience handling allergen-controlled materials, regulated ingredients, or high-volume manufacturing with short lead times.

Working arrangement and offer

This is a permanent, full-time onsite position based in D24, Greater Dublin. Working hours are Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:30. The salary range for the role is €45,000 to €50,000.
