Description de l'emploi

Role overview

This permanent, full-time position is based in Christchurch, New Zealand, and sits within Program & Project Management. The role is centered on improving how work is carried out across the organisation by mapping business processes and helping teams apply clear, consistent ways of working.

About Environment Canterbury

Environment Canterbury is the regional council for Canterbury, responsible for managing natural resources such as air, soil, water, and land. The organisation works alongside mana whenua Ngāi Tahu to protect environmental health and support a sustainable future for the region. Its operating environment is shaped by changing environmental and political conditions, and it must remain adaptable while continuing to deliver core services for communities and the environment.

The council’s three main service areas are environmental regulation and protection, community preparedness and response to hazards, and public transport.

About the role

As a Process Mapping Officer, you will help shape both current and future-state processes so they are well documented, aligned, and easy to follow. The role supports the Strategic Transition Programme as well as broader organisational change initiatives.

You will work across different teams to improve ways of working, assist leaders with process improvement, and make sure process knowledge is properly captured and maintained to support efficient, customer-focused service delivery.

What you will do

  • Document current processes using Nintex Process Manager.
  • Help design improved processes that support organisational change.
  • Partner with leaders and subject matter experts to record working practices.
  • Keep process documentation up to date and consistent.
  • Support initiatives aimed at improving efficiency.

About you

You are detail-focused, structured, and comfortable working with systems and workflows. You enjoy making complex processes easier to understand and can work confidently across teams. Strong communication skills, organisation, and a practical approach to problem-solving are key to success in this role.

Experience and qualifications

You should have at least 3 years of experience using process mapping tools and methodologies. Experience with Nintex Process Manager or a similar business process management tool is required. A background in project management and business process practices will be useful, and experience in large, complex, or regulated organisations would be an advantage. A relevant qualification in systems design or a similar field is also expected.

Working at Environment Canterbury

The organisation’s values are kaitiakitanga, pononga, manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and māiatanga. It values diversity, different perspectives, and a workplace where everyone can contribute meaningfully.

Environment Canterbury is also focused on strengthening its role as a treaty partner of excellence and on embedding te ao Māori into its work. Support is available for people developing capability in kaupapa Māori, mātauranga Māori, and te reo Māori, and applicants are welcomed regardless of where they are on their personal journey.

Additional information

For a confidential discussion about the role, contact Tafflyn Bradford-James on 0274411493.

Applications should be submitted online with a CV and cover letter. Applications close on Wednesday 22 July, but they may be reviewed as they arrive, so early applications are encouraged. Interviews may start before the closing date, and the organisation may close the vacancy early if needed.

Shortlisted candidates will go through an interview process, reference checks, and a criminal check. Additional background checks may also be required depending on the role.

Applicants are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet every qualification listed, as the organisation values diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplaces.

The organisation’s guiding statement is: Me mahi tahi tātou - Together we can.
