Overview
This opening is for a Manager in Training at the Fairfield, Alabama location in Western Hills Mall. The role sits within the Operations department, is classified as non-exempt, and reports directly to the Store Manager. Pay is hourly at $13.25.
The Manager in Training supports store leadership with day-to-day operations and administrative work. The position requires solid product knowledge across store departments and the ability to help decide the most effective ways to meet store objectives and initiatives. It also involves following company policies, procedures, and visual standards, actively promoting sales and promotions, and serving as a customer-focused ambassador for the brand. In the Store Manager’s absence, this person takes over supervisory control and is expected to be trained in the Store Manager’s duties.
Key Duties
- Support the Store Manager in protecting store assets and maintaining operational control.
- Work with the Store Manager to build action plans for selling, replenishment, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
- Take charge of the store when the Store Manager is unavailable.
- Offer product knowledge and direction to both staff and shoppers across departments when needed.
- Monitor inventory, sales performance, and expenses to help drive profitability.
- Guide team members so department tasks and standards are completed properly.
- Keep the Store Manager updated on inventory changes and customer buying patterns.
- Help maintain strong customer service at all times.
- Handle general administrative tasks and continue training for Store Manager-level responsibilities.
- Deliver excellent service by greeting customers, assisting multiple shoppers during busy periods, and supporting a positive in-store experience.
- Encourage the sale of merchandise and services offered by the company.
- Follow all directions found in the company’s operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, along with internal memos.
- Safeguard company assets and financial data by following internal controls and escalating any possible fraud concerns.
Supervisory Role
When the Store Manager is not present, this role oversees employees. Supervisory responsibilities follow company policy and applicable laws and include interviewing, training, assigning and directing work, and resolving issues.
Qualifications
- Prior retail experience is required, with a preference for footwear or athletic apparel.
- At least 1-3 years of customer service experience.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort working in a busy, fast-moving retail setting.
- Ability to help manage a team while supporting sales and profit goals.
- Self-driven and able to take initiative on important tasks without needing direction.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage several priorities accurately at the same time.
- Team-oriented with a strong commitment to service and selling.
