Junior Data Scientist / Forecasting Analyst

Role overview

Datamatics Technologies is looking for a Junior Data Scientist / Forecasting Analyst to join its offshore India team. This contract assignment runs for 4 months and may be extended. The start date is 1st July 2026. The role is suited to someone with 3–4 years of total professional experience, including at least 1.5 years working on data science, machine learning, predictive analytics, or forecasting assignments.

The position supports demand forecasting and predictive analytics work in collaboration with senior data scientists and business stakeholders. The selected professional will contribute to data preparation, model execution, forecast generation, monitoring, automation, and ongoing process improvements in a distributed international environment.

Key responsibilities

• Help implement, run, and maintain demand forecasting and predictive analytics solutions.
• Review historical sales patterns, demand behavior, and related business inputs to produce useful insights.
• Operate existing forecasting models under the direction of senior team members.
• Carry out model retraining and produce scheduled forecasts as per the agreed timeline.
• Track model outputs and make sure forecasting results are delivered on time.
• Clean, prepare, and verify datasets used for predictive modeling.
• Assess data quality, flag inconsistencies, identify missing values, and spot anomalies.
• Assist with feature engineering using the team’s established methods and standards.
• Work with senior data scientists to strengthen data readiness and improve model inputs.
• Measure forecast accuracy and other model performance indicators, then report the results.
• Observe forecasting outputs, investigate unusual behavior, and document deviations.
• Escalate issues when needed and support efforts to improve reliability and accuracy.
• Automate parts of data preparation, model execution, and prediction generation where possible.
• Create and maintain Python scripts and lightweight data pipelines.
• Contribute to workflow improvements that increase efficiency and scalability.
• Help troubleshoot technical issues related to forecasting processes.
• Prepare reports, dashboards, tables, charts, and summary outputs for stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate documentation for models, data sets, workflows, and technical procedures.
• Ensure deliverables meet internal quality and documentation expectations.
• Share knowledge and contribute to process documentation activities.
• Take part in daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and weekly technical discussions.
• Share updates, risks, and blockers regularly with the onshore team.
• Collaborate effectively in a global, distributed team setup.
• Raise clarifications proactively when requirements are not fully clear.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or another quantitative field.
• 3–4 years of overall professional experience.
• At least 1.5 years of hands-on exposure to data science, machine learning, predictive analytics, or forecasting projects.
• Experience working with structured data and analytical workflows.
• Strong Python skills, with working knowledge of Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn.
• Experience using Git for version control.
• Good understanding of SQL basics for extracting and manipulating data.
• Solid grounding in machine learning principles.
• Familiarity with regression methods, validation approaches, forecasting accuracy measures, statistical concepts, and error metrics such as MAE, RMSE, and MAPE.
• Ability to clean and preprocess data, validate quality, detect anomalies, and perform exploratory data analysis.
• Demand forecasting knowledge is preferred, along with time-series analysis experience.
• Nice-to-have exposure to PySpark, Azure Databricks, Power BI, Tableau, Matplotlib, Seaborn, cloud-based analytics platforms, and basic MLOps concepts.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and clear communication skills.
• Comfortable working with a multicultural, distributed team and managing several priorities at once.
• Curious, self-driven, and able to work independently while still asking for support when needed.

Daily activities

• Analyze sales and business data to support forecasting work.
• Run forecasting models and generate scheduled predictions.
