Housekeeper

Role Summary

This position focuses on delivering non-medical support inside clients’ homes to help maintain comfort, safety, supervision, and an orderly living space. The role also includes companionship and light home-management duties for people who need social interaction and/or basic guidance.

Key Duties

• Offer general day-to-day support based on the client’s established care plan and non-medical needs.
• Provide companionship through conversation, listening, reading aloud, emotional support, and activities that help keep the client engaged and mentally active.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy home environment by handling light housekeeping such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, bathroom cleaning, and laundering clothing and linens.
• Prepare and serve meals when instructed, and ensure dishes are washed and the kitchen is cleaned after meals.
• Help with everyday tasks such as making phone calls, writing letters, and accompanying the client on walks, local outings, salons, and similar trips.
• Support clients in taking self-administered medication in line with the organization’s medication policy.
• Notice and promptly report any changes in the client’s physical, emotional, mental, or home situation to the supervisor.
• Build and maintain respectful, professional communication with clients, family members, co-workers, and administrative staff.
• Take part in training, staff meetings, client conferences, and ongoing education as requested.
• Complete service notes and other required documentation accurately and submit them on time.
• Use all equipment and supplies in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Protect client privacy and keep all information confidential.
• Handle any other related duties assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

Applicants should have at least a high school diploma. A current CPR and First Aid certification is required and must be maintained. The role also requires an annually renewed Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check, along with meeting the standards for criminal background screening, driving record review where applicable, and personal/professional reference checks. Candidates must also agree to random drug and alcohol testing.

Reliable transportation is necessary, along with punctuality and dependable attendance. If driving is required for an assignment, a valid driver’s licence and automobile insurance are also needed. Candidates must be able to complete the required company training and orientation, follow policies and procedures, work with limited direct supervision, and maintain positive working relationships with clients, families, and office staff.

Strong verbal and written communication, the ability to follow instructions, and consistent documentation skills are important. The employer is looking for someone with genuine compassion, honesty, integrity, and a sincere interest in helping others.

Work Setting and Physical Requirements

The work takes place in client homes and may involve use of an automobile. There may be exposure to blood or other body fluids, which can present a risk of bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases.

The position involves regular physical activity, including driving, helping clients with activities, and performing light housekeeping tasks. Candidates must be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, speak, and hear on a regular basis, and should be able to reach and lift up to 12 kg (25 lbs). Good manual dexterity and strength in both hands are required.

Pay

Starting wage is $19.00 per hour.
