Description de l'emploi

Role overview

We are looking for an experienced Emerging Markets FX Trader with strong knowledge of African currencies to join a global trading and liquidity function. The position calls for a professional who has worked extensively in restricted and thinly traded FX markets, handled OTC and interbank execution, and built hedging and liquidity structures that can support large-scale cross-border payment activity. Alongside trading expertise, this role also requires hands-on involvement in building and improving FX systems, hedging workflows, and bank/broker/OTC connectivity.

Key responsibilities

You will manage FX positions in emerging market currencies, especially African pairs such as NGN, KES, ZAR, GHS, and similar markets. You will also maintain and expand liquidity relationships across banks, brokers, and OTC venues, while executing spot, forwards, NDFs, swaps, and other OTC transactions to improve execution quality and control currency risk.

The role includes tracking market conditions, capital restrictions, and liquidity changes across EM FX markets. You will design hedging approaches for corporate and client exposure, improve hedging performance across banks, ECNs, OTC desks, and crypto liquidity sources where relevant, and develop methods for dynamic hedging, inventory risk management, and spread optimization. You will also monitor exposure, risk limits, and P&L across currency books.

In addition, you will partner with engineering and product teams to strengthen trading infrastructure, including automated hedging engines, liquidity aggregation layers, smart order routing, pricing tools, and risk systems. This includes integration through APIs or FIX, along with continuous improvement in execution automation, latency reduction, and real-time exposure visibility.

You will contribute to market development by identifying and onboarding new liquidity providers and OTC partners in emerging markets, building pricing approaches for illiquid pairs, supporting new corridor launches, and helping scale FX infrastructure for global payments and settlement flows.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should bring 5–10+ years of FX trading experience in emerging markets, with strong exposure to African currencies such as NGN, KES, ZAR, GHS, and EGP. Prior experience in global banks, EM FX trading firms, payment or fintech businesses, crypto exchanges, or market-making environments is preferred. You must also have a track record of executing OTC and institutional-sized FX transactions.

Strong technical understanding is required across illiquid FX market structure, NDFs and offshore hedging, and capital controls or FX regulatory environments. Practical experience in building or improving FX trading platforms, hedging engines, and liquidity aggregation solutions is important, along with familiarity with FIX connectivity, API-driven trading, and algorithmic execution.

Applicants should have strong numerical and analytical ability, be comfortable operating in volatile and fragmented liquidity conditions, and have a well-developed network across EM FX liquidity providers and OTC desks. Clear communication and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams are also important.

Preferred qualifications

Additional value will be given to candidates who have supported high-volume cross-border payment flows or treasury operations, traded EM FX through both traditional banking channels and alternative liquidity sources, worked with stablecoin or crypto liquidity in emerging markets, or helped build and scale FX market-making operations. Strong problem-solving ability and comfort working with global teams in fast-moving environments are also desirable.
