Description de l'emploi
About the role
Egmont Air is looking for an Engineering Estimator based in Hawera. The business operates in the specialised spray booth, dust extraction, and fume extraction sector, delivering design-and-build solutions for mechanical plant and machinery applications. This newly created position sits inside a growing, forward-looking company and offers a strong career path.
The role is largely an internal estimating function and acts as an important connection point between the sales team and the drafter. You will help develop quotations and proposals for customer enquiries, while working closely with on-site consultants who present these solutions to prospective clients.
This role also involves post-sale technical support, maintaining customer records, and assisting with ongoing equipment, parts, and servicing needs. Accuracy, numerical confidence, and strong customer focus will be essential.
What the company does
Egmont Air works in a highly technical niche that includes spray booth enclosures, powder coating ovens, ducted extraction systems, and centralised extraction fan and filter setups. Their customers include New Zealand manufacturers across a wide range of industries such as woodworking, fibreglass production, and engineering-based manufacturing. These customers generate materials and fumes such as MDF dust, solid timber dust, fibreglass dust, welding fumes, plasma fumes, and grinding dust, so the solutions require a solid understanding of airflow, machinery, and production environments.
Key responsibilities
You will be involved in preparing proposals and quotations, supporting customer discussions, and helping shape technical solutions that meet each client’s specific needs. The work requires a practical mindset, strong attention to detail, and the ability to think creatively because no two systems are the same.
You will also maintain customer databases, manage records and filing, produce relevant reports, and provide after-sales technical advice. A strong ability to understand production lines, product capabilities, and machinery limitations will help you succeed in the role.
Skills and experience needed
- Strong customer service approach and confidence in technical after-sales support
- Excellent numerical ability and a high level of accuracy
- Experience preparing quotation documents and proposals
- Background in technical estimating
- Ability to specify products and understand machinery capacity and constraints
- Willingness to learn HVAC airflow movement and related air dynamics concepts
- Capability to understand different production environments and what matters to manufacturing customers
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and other computer tools; experience with Smartsheet and Zoom would be beneficial
- Strong record-keeping, filing, and reporting skills
- Confident presenting proposals and consulting with customers
- Self-driven, well-organised, and able to manage your own learning and planning
- Flexible, collaborative, and open to new ways of working
