About the Role
Parkland County is looking for an Engineer-in-Training to join its Engineering Services team in a temporary, full-time capacity. This opportunity is aimed at someone who wants hands-on experience in municipal engineering while contributing to public service and community-focused projects. The position supports a workplace culture built around teamwork, practical problem-solving, respect, and safety.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Director of Engineering Services, or another designated leader, you will assist with engineering construction and capital project work. Your day-to-day involvement will include collecting data, carrying out site inspections, maintaining project records, helping with documentation, administering contracts, reviewing submissions, and taking on other related tasks as required. The role is designed to build experience in municipal engineering standards, construction methods, and project delivery.
Schedule and Term
This is a temporary assignment for approximately July through December 2026. The regular schedule is 35 hours per week, or 7 hours per day. The posting closes on July 13, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.
Candidate Profile
The county is seeking a recent graduate of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering who is eligible for Member-in-Training status through APEGA. Experience or exposure to project management work or capital construction projects is preferred, along with familiarity using Microsoft Office and some exposure to database and GIS tools.
Work Requirements
This role is primarily based in person at Parkland County Centre, 53109A HWY 779, Parkland County, Alberta, and also involves fieldwork across the county. A valid Class 5 driver’s licence and a current, satisfactory driver’s abstract are required when hired. A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is also required on hire, except for candidates under 18 and current Parkland County employees. Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting rate for this role is $45.66 to $49.40 per hour, with a maximum potential rate of $57.80 per hour.
