Description de l'emploi

Role overview

This position is responsible for guiding corrosion engineering practices that protect material integrity across plant assets. The role focuses on maintaining corrosion standards, keeping corrosion manuals current with operating conditions and industry codes, and recommending metallurgy improvements when needed. It also involves enforcing corrosion control procedures and supporting area and turnaround inspectors with practical technical guidance.

Key responsibilities

  • Inspect plant equipment for signs of corrosion and metallurgical deterioration, and work with metallurgists and laboratory teams to investigate failures in static equipment through destructive and non-destructive testing so recurrence can be prevented.
  • Revise corrosion manuals and inspection plans according to equipment damage susceptibility, including collection of operating data, refinement of corrosion loops, risk assessments, and inspection planning.
  • Coordinate with chemical treatment contractors, laboratory staff, process and operations teams, and the Services Laboratory to evaluate plant samples, verify chemical treatment effectiveness against licenser requirements, and support qualification of asset-integrity chemicals and vendor interfaces.
  • Communicate with international code committees on materials selection so that company material specifications reflect business needs, project lessons learned, commissioning and warranty findings, and design-life metallurgical investigations.
  • Recommend improved material alternatives that meet business requirements and long-term integrity expectations, and ensure that FEED and design-stage material selections align with approved quality standards and specifications.
  • Track corrosion coupons and probes to assess corrosion levels, review the data, investigate issues, suggest material changes, and identify new monitoring locations.
  • Monitor cathodic protection systems for reliability and effectiveness, assess survey results, and recommend corrective actions where deficiencies are found.
  • Prepare and review coating, painting, and lining procedures for new and existing surfaces such as tanks, piping, and equipment.
  • Meet monthly with chemical treatment contractors to address water and corrosion concerns, review solutions, follow through on agreed actions, and assess emerging technologies.
  • Provide technical support in choosing coatings and oversee their application and inspection.
  • Draft technical corrosion reports for static pressure equipment on a routine basis and during turnarounds, discuss findings with the Inspection Superintendent, and ensure relevant damage susceptibility items are escalated to RBI engineers.
  • Review and approve major MOC changes for process units to confirm material compatibility with the operating environment.
  • Stay current with corrosion mitigation methods and advances in NDT, and participate in regional and international corrosion-related conferences and exhibitions.
  • Support turnaround planning and execution by ensuring all corrosion management preparation activities are completed on time.
  • Report contractor performance issues related to corrosion control to the Inspection Superintendent and recommend corrective measures when gaps are identified.
  • Participate in investigations of static asset failures while supporting the company’s safety policies and maintenance expectations for static pressure equipment.
  • Deliver other related tasks, including introductory material-corrosion engineering courses when required.
  • Contribute to employee training and development through on-the-job coaching, workload delegation, and progress assessment.
  • Carry out any additional duties assigned by the Inspection Superintendent.

Qualifications and experience

Candidates should hold a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification. Professional certifications such as NACE Refining Corrosion Technologist, NACE CIP Level 1, and NACE Basic Corrosion are required or expected as stated in the role profile. The position calls for at least 15 years of experience in corrosion management, integrity risk assessment, and inspection processes within the oil and gas or petrochemical sector, including a minimum of 10 years in a corrosion engineering specialist role.

Additional information

The role is based in Jubail, Eastern, Saudi Arabia and is a full-time, on-site position. The vacancy is focused on maintaining asset integrity, supporting inspections, and strengthening corrosion control practices across plant operations and project life cycles.
