Role overview
The cashier is a key front-of-house position responsible for ensuring every checkout interaction is smooth, accurate, and aligned with the brand’s high client-service standards. This role manages point-of-sale activity, supports store operations, and works closely with the sales team to help the store run efficiently.
Core responsibilities
- Welcome clients, answer incoming calls, and route questions to the correct team member.
- Respond to common billing queries and resolve basic payment-related concerns.
- Support store opening and closing routines, including cash management and deposits.
- Prepare, process, and maintain required records, paperwork, and documentation.
- Manage the daily till, including cash, deposit handling, and till procedures.
- Receive merchandise and hand over goods to clients when needed.
- Ensure the greeting and farewell at the end of the transaction reflect the brand’s service standard.
- Guide and coordinate front-end cashier activity and help maintain service quality.
- Carry out opening and closing tasks accurately and keep cash office files and reports in order.
- Provide practical training and support to junior cashiers.
- Accept payments by cash, cheque, wire transfer, or credit card, following established policies.
- Keep register and counter areas tidy and supplied with necessary materials.
- Identify product prices manually or using a scanner.
- Enter sales into the register and present the customer’s final bill.
- Count coins and notes, and issue the correct change and receipts.
- Reconcile cash at the start and end of each shift.
- Process card and cheque payments accurately.
- Step in as a customer service representative when required.
- Support shelf stocking, product rotation, and price marking as needed.
- Open and close tills according to procedure.
